Want to learn more about your body composition? The DEXA Scan is one of the quickest and most practical methods available to learn more about your body providing an in-depth analysis of your fat tissue, muscle mass, and bone density.
These scans offer a more complete and accurate assessment compared to other exams. Considered one of the most accurate tests, it is also helpful when evaluating levels of physical fitness.
A DEXA Body Scan is a low-powered, 6-minute total body X-Ray scan that evaluates how much body fat, lean mass, and bone mass you have in your body from your head to your toes called your Body Composition.
It’s the only technology available that can easily and accurately measure Visceral Fat or VAT. VAT is a dangerous type of fat that surrounds your vital organs, becoming a toxic organ itself, and contributes to secondary diseases such as Type II Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, immunosuppression, etc.
The DEXA Body Scan is a very low-powered X-ray. A relative environmental equivalent is standing on the beach in the summer sun for 10 minutes. This is about 40% less exposure than your standard Chest X-ray in a hospital setting. DEXA Body Scan can be used safely by clients who have Pacemakers, surgical metals, and other implanted devices.
DEXA Body Scan helps you go BEYOND the scale to understand the true make-up of the number you see. This can help you create a healthier body-image by understanding how much lean muscle, fat tissue, and bone make up your total body mass accounts for and where the highest concentration of your body fat lies.
Using a DEXA Body Composition Scan can help you improve your weight loss goal as it helps you:
As this test will provide detailed information regarding various components in your body, anyone can use it. If you are simply curious about your health, planning to get healthier, or losing weight, you could get this scan in order to gain the best possible insight regarding your body composition. Beware the DEXA Scan can accommodate persons weighing up to 350 lbs and 6 feet 7 inches tall.
This scan requires very minimal preparation. However, you need to make sure to drink proper amounts of water and avoid eating meals no less than 2-3 hours prior to the scan.
It is recommended that you do not wear clothing with large amounts of metal such as buttons, zippers, sequins, or beading for your DEXA Body Scan because the DEXA cannot penetrate metal.
To ensure the data is most accurate avoid coming dehydrated or after working out. Try to repeat the same exercise, eating, and drinking habits for each scan, and schedule as close to the same time of day as you can. DEXA Is most accurate when you schedule earlier in the day, ideally before 2 pm. Arrive properly hydrated, and don’t exercise or have eaten a meal prior to your scan.
Be aware the DEXA Body Scan takes around 6 to 10 minutes. The entire appointment is blocked for 20-minutes, but scan time is usually no higher than 8.
Recommendations differ from client to client depending on your needs, but on average, you can safely have routine DXA Body Scans to evaluate your body composition 4-times per year or once every 90-days if you are working on body composition change improvements with diet and exercise.
