A DEXA or (DXA) Body Scan is the most accurate and cost-effective method available to analyze body composition. Providing 99% accuracy, this low-range X-ray exam goes beyond a traditional scale to provide sophisticated details about your wellness.
THE DEXA CAN SEE WHAT YOU CAN'T
One of the biggest points of evaluation provided by the DEXA Scan is Visceral Fat (VAT). This is the "hidden fat" that surrounds your vital organs. Too much visceral fat can contribute to secondary illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and hormonal imbalances.
* Visceral Fat readings may not be available for some clients with a high accumulation of body fat in their Abdomen. This is because the DXA is a very low-powered x-ray and it cannot penetrate through these individuals. A manual estimate (in pounds) will be provided according to area volume to the client on the day of their test.
** The DEXA Total Body Scan does NOT include the clinical evaluation for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis. The bone density information provided by the DEXA Total Body Scan includes a TOTAL density (strength) rating of the entire amount of bone tissue in your body and should NOT be used to aid in the diagnosis of fracture risk or bone health. If you would like to add the clinical evaluation for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis to the DEXA Total Body Scan, there is an extra fee, and a review session with a provider is required by law.
HOW DOES THE DEXA SCAN MEASURE BODY COMPOSITION?
The DEXA uses low-powered X-RAY beams to evaluate body tissues carefully. The intensity is far less than diagnostic x-ray studies, and the DEXA Scan only takes about 6 to 8 minutes to complete.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A DEXA BODY SCAN?
Recommendations will vary based on individual wellness status and goals, but the DEXA can be utilized 4 to 6 times per year in 60 to 90-day evaluation increments to stay on top of your body’s physiological changes during lifestyle adjustments.
See a DEXA Body Scan sample report here to see exactly how the report will look and the information you will receive with this test. The information provided by the DEXA Body Scan can unlock new levels of health and wellness in the hands of the right providers and care team.
A brief review session will be provided following your DEXA Body Scan. From there, we have many resources available to address your wellness goals. If you are already working with a team of professionals, simply pass the report along to them so they can make any necessary adjustments to your care plan!
